Garden & Planting Design

Bringing your Garden to Life

“The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before.”

Vita Sackville West, writer, plantswoman and co-creator of the world-famous garden at Sissinghurst in Kent.

Every new garden and planting design project no matter what size are met by Marianne and Clive with enthusiasm and excitement. In designing a new garden Marianne combines her plant knowledge with an understanding of colour, texture and structure to blend landscaping and planting into a beautiful thriving outdoor space that will have a progression of interest throughout the seasons.

After an initial consultation Marianne will design a garden that not only fulfils the client’s needs but is also suitable for the aspect and soil conditions of the garden. Many plants have very specific requirements for light and soil conditions and careful consideration is needed during the design process to choose plants that will thrive in the conditions available. During the build process hard landscaping may be required and Marianne can advise the client on the choice of suitable landscaping professionals.

After any hard-landscaping has been completed and in order to prepare the garden for planting, Growing Colours will visit the garden to undertake any pruning, moving of existing plants, shaping new beds and soil improvement that may be necessary; good preparation ensures the best possible chance new plants have of successful establishment. Once the garden is ready for planting Marianne will source and arrange delivery of all the plants. These will often include selections from specialist suppliers to ensure interesting and varied plant combinations. Planting is then carried out with the upmost care and consideration of spacing and correct planting methods.

Testimonial

Just want to say how delighted I am with the Growing Colours re-design and replanting of three of my rather out of control garden beds. Due to work pressures they had become rather disjointed and overrun.

I enjoyed our original discussions about colours, likes/dislikes and identifying which of the existing plants were to be incorporated into the new scheme and then I was happy to leave it to you to create and implement an appropriate design.

The results are spectacular – the structure, the colours, the sequence of flowering all bring new surprises each week with different highlights for each season. Not only does the garden look terrific but judging from the bees, butterflies and dragonflies buzzing about wildlife finds it as attractive as us humans! Thank you.

Hilary, Bookham
